One of America’s biggest debates is on gun control. Should we ban guns completely or should we just implement stricter laws? This is the debate that wins elections, gets people in the street, and keeps the headlines when tragedies like the one in Las Vegas happen.
Instead of focusing on the people who handle them, we’re making guns our enemy. Our eye is set at the end of the barrel instead of behind the trigger and this is not a healthy approach. Yes, tragedies do happen, but in even more cases, normal people with guns managed to stop deranged individuals from putting more people in the ground.
That’s why I believe in stricter laws that will encourage civilians to wear guns legally. If we implement a more thorough background check and we apply rules the proper way, we may have the possibility to reduce the number of tragedies. We may not be able to stop them completely, but education plays a large role.
In my opinion, gun banning would be a huge mistake as it will only put a gap between the law and the civilians. And I know I am not alone when I say guns should never be banned in America – over 50% of the population shares my conviction and below you can read some of the arguments people bring against gun control.
Guns and Americans go together
We built one of the best nations in the world using guns and, while it may seem violent from outside, we feel safe and comfortable around firearms.
We don’t put our freedom and life safety in the hand of the government or authorities and this is what differentiates us from Europeans or other citizens in the world. Americans love their independence and the fact that they don’t depend on a nanny (the government) to be safe on the streets. So, if you take away our guns for good, you’ll also be taking our independence and this just won’t do. Violence can be dealt with differently but firearms should never be banned from America!
Guns are way too spread
We’ve been able to buy firearms from the earliest times and you can’t just buy one. Millions and millions of guns were sold in America over the years and it’s such a common occurrence that no one bats an eye when you see them.
Even more, we teach our kids how to shoot and hunt from a young age – this shows how much value we put on weapons and why governments should never mettle in this.
Think about it: if you ban guns now, you’ll only leave a small part of the population without a weapon. After all, no gun owner is going to willingly give up their possession!
Guns are so spread in this country that it would take a super-human effort to completely eradicate them. It’s an impossible mission that will create lots of conflicts if put into practice.
Guns are not the problem, people are
As I mentioned in the beginning, the gun is not the problem – people handling them are. In my opinion, the main problem is with gun education. We should teach our children responsibility and how to behave around a loaded weapon, not hide the firearms from them!
You can start from a young age with war games such as airsoft – after all these weapons are so realistic that they mimic the behavior of a real gun (take a look on Goog Gun to convince yourself). This is the perfect way to teach young children how to aim and how to hold a weapon when they are in public.
The education is very important and I think would reduce the number of mass shootings in schools to almost none.
The Constitution Grants us the Right
The Second Amendment of the Constitution gives American citizens the right to gun possession. So, tampering with gun possession would mean tampering with the constitution which is the foundation of the United States of America!
The Founding Fathers encouraged citizens to own guns in order to protect the new state from attacks from the old continent. Ever since, we’ve been using firearms for self-defense and for defending our freedom.
